Grow:Brixton is an exciting development which will establish a new hub of creative entrepreneurs. Focused around a new central semi-public space, providing much needed studio and workshop spaces at affordable prices. At the heart of the site sits a central ‘Food Tunnel’, created within a lightweight translucent structure surrounded by planting inside and out. It will feature a fully-serviced café area and become a unique destination in London where people can meet and eat. This central area in our scheme recently received a funding pledge from the Mayor of London to become London’s newest ‘Pocket Park’. The strong emphasis on greening our space and encouraging biodiversity sits right in the heart of our project and is integral to what sets our scheme apart.
Alongside studio, workshop and retail units, there will be live/work accommodation, pop-up food facilities, a bar with rooftop terrace and a central courtyard area, the only of its kind in Brixton. Additionally, an entertainment area will host film screenings, music and performance arts, showcasing community projects and private events. There are plans for the events area to house a recording studio to provide training opportunities in music production.
‘The Give’
Everyone who takes part in the project, will be asked to provide a ‘Give’ back to the community. This maybe by supporting others on the campus and/or the community surrounding with skills exchanges, mentoring, employment, training opportunities or sharing their own experiences in business / creating / making / developing.
